good intentions

We started to make some felt ornaments for my mom's Christmas tree this week. We thought we could finish 5 or 6 between the two of us, but we only managed to partially finish one gingerbread man (me) and one snowman (mom). I was inspired by this cute tutorial I saw. These crafters were obviously more experienced stitchers than I! I struggled with the blanket stitch to finish it off so I ripped it out and did a basic stitch in a matching color which was great for hiding the uneven stitches. I am just NOT a natural stitcher or sewing machine user!! That frustrates me a little...

So now I've just gotta stuff my gingerbread man. There doesn't seem to be any "stuffing" available on island, so I guess we will use cotton balls!!

Hopefully we can get a few more done over the weekend. I have some beaded snowflakes to work on for a little pink fuzzy tree. I'll let you know how it goes. Believe it or not - I could find the beading supplies I needed for this project.

Two months

There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains.

Nice November Day

We have had such wonderful weather this November. It still heats up in the day, but we have had a lovely breeze and very comfortable mornings and late afternoons. We are spending more time outside and my little girl LOVES being outside. She loves rocks, snails, seeing the snake, picking flowers, etc...

This afternoon we headed to the park. They were having a fundraiser fun day for kids. We purchased some books from the book sale and let my girl "catch" some rubber ducks in a net and she won a lollypop. She had no idea what it was and held on to it for a while - then we lost it somewhere along the way. Whew! Thought she was going to have her first lollypop today. She enjoyed the sing-along they had - here she is clapping at the end of a song. You should have heard her belting out The Itsy Bitsy Spider! Too cute.

Good weather, good fun, good life....

Goodbye pumpkins

Goodbye pumpkins.

Goodbye turkey.

Goodbye acorns.

It's time to say goodbye!

Time to pack all the fall decorations away until next year. I've got a lot of rearranging to do before the Christmas tree comes out. Toys have taken over our living room and there is currently no extra space. Hopefully, with help, I can make some progress tomorrow. I've decided to move the toys into our bedroom downstairs and make that a playroom.

I did find a few new ornaments today - I've wanted the dragonfly & butterfly since last year when they made an appearance at the ornament party. I think they will all be nice additions to the tree. I wonder if they will all make it through this year with Little Miss Curious running around.....

First Posting!

Wow, my first post. I've recently discovered blogs and I think they are great. So I decided to start my own. I feel like I'm roaming in unchartered territory here but I'm going to give it a shot. Hopefully I will work on this a bit and my sidebars will get a little more interesting and I might figure out how to make my banner fit properly! I thought it would be a good time to start now because it's right after Thanksgiving and I feel I have a lot to say about being thankful.

Here's my girl! We try to get her to smile for photos now by telling her to "show your teeth" and this is the result. This was taken last night at our Thanksgiving feast. She enjoyed the mashed potatoes and turkey, but especially the sweet potatoes. Her reaction: "mmmm nummy num!" On the list of things I'm thankful for - she's at the top.

Here's our table last night. No shortage of food here. Family and friends, another thing high on my list.

Missed my sister yesterday - she's in Texas. I'm thankful for her.

Especially missed my brother yesterday, perhaps he was there but I just couldn't see him. I'm thankful for all the time we had with him.

(Dec 2006)

So here we are in the holiday season once again. I am a blessed individual with much to be thankful for. I miss my brother & my Grandma this year, but am thankful nevertheless that my life was much richer for having them as part of it.

Hoping to put away the fall/Thanksgiving decorations this weekend and prepare for the Christmas ones.

Signing off for now - hope you enjoyed my first post!
